Autoresponders.

An autoresponder returns a fixed message to an e-mailer when they send a message to a particular address. You create the message in the form of a text file.
For Example:

From: blackhole@tv-science.co.uk Subject: Re: Your e-mail message *** This reply is generated automatically. *** Please do not respond to the address from which this e-mail was sent, *** as it cannot receive mail; it is a send-only mailbox. We're on holiday at the moment. Please try later. Regards, --

This message will be returned to anyone sending mail to the nominated address(es).

Possible uses are:

To provide information from your company to those who have e-mail but no World Wide Web access.
Many companies deny Web access to their employees as an efficiency measure ;-)
To provide information best delivered as plain text, your Terms of Business perhaps.
To cover a temporary situation, as above.
